That’s us just back from an amazing weekend in Gnorway at the UKM Arctic Youth Festival.
The festival featured acts from all over Norway and several groups from other European countries including Russia, Sweden and Finland. It took place in the town of Finnsnes, 5 hours north of the bottom of the Arctic Circle! Not often we gig further North than Orkney…
We travelled with a contingent of Scots including a trio from Edinburgh – Freya Ruuskanen (cello), Kim Hunter (fiddle) and Mia Scott (fiddle) – Peter Macpherson (singer and pianist from Inverness) and Frieda McKiggan – a piper from Skye. Also on the trip was Charlotte Hathaway from unroofed records.
We performed as Gnoss for several events throughout the weekend including opening the first show of the festival. We also performed with the rest of the Scottish group and collaborated with some Norwegian musicians for the closing show as ‘Band of Vikings’; a project based around highlighting the similarities between Norway and Scotland’s traditional music heritage.
A huge thanks to everyone involved for being so hospitable and making it such a good weekend!
